Kate, Pop Pop, Uncle Randy & Matthew

Kate, on our recent trip to Connecticut, had all of the boys wrapped around her finger...
(why walk if you don't need to?)
Kate, Pop Pop & Matthew
Kate & Uncle Randy (Matthew is there too, behind his dad's legs)
and, if your cousin is such a good sport he'll play baby doll & let you brush his hair.. what more could you need? (Plus, his hair is much easier to manage than Fairy Barbies' long pink hair)

What treasure we're fighting over today...

... and these fairy wings aren't even ours. Kate went with her friend Lilly to see Disney Princesses (and Fairies) on Ice and her friend Lilly left these behind in our car.

Hopefully she won't mind us all trying them out.

Later in the day - desperate to find something 4 little hands could do that did not involve beating each other over a coveted pair of wings,

I had them make necklaces.

Jack and Kate have completely different personalities, as evidenced by the finished products...

Jack's necklace was completely intact. Every cheerio that I placed in his bowl was carefully strung on his ribbon. If he uncovered a broken cheerio while working, it needed an immediate replacement. If Kate snagged one of his for her own, there was an outcry.

You can't tell from the picture, but Kate has 3 or 4 cheerios on her ribbon. She ate about 40, and crushed another 10 or 20 into her clothes and/or chair. She was thrilled with the outcome.

Jack tried and tried, and tried to point out to her the error of her ways, but she was could not be deterred.

Maybe she's laying on the floor because her belly hurts...

Called Out as a Bully...

A lovely morning spent at the gym ended with someone in our family being called out as a bully...

If it was the small fiesty boy in the picture above, I would not have been at all surprised...

and, I'm pretty sure I've been called a bully in my day (well, probably more often the other word that begins with a B, but, you get my drift...)

Could a bully lurk beneath that head full of curls and big blue eyes??

I would not have thought so either.

Sweet Kate;

seized the rare opportunity this morning to play a role she has only "seen" played before (most often by her brother)

all of her friends are older and bigger, and, forever the youngest in every class she's been in so far at preschool, when left to play with a group of much younger kids in the awesome kids room at the Y,

She hogged all of the toys, stood up,stuck out her chest and yelled MY TOYS, to whomever dared approach.

I was informed by the staff that she would be moving up to the older kids group....

I'm sure she'll feel more at home there.

Kate's Birthday Party

We thought since Kate's party was going to be on one of the hottest days of the year, and we wanted to keep it outside, a water slide, or some type of water fun was in order.

I put Scott in charge of entertainment.

Imagine my surprise when this showed up on her birthday.

Notice how the slide dwarfs the playset behind it.

Scott assured me that the person he spoke to on the phone said this would work just fine for 2 year olds...

Kate never made it to the top unassisted - but she had a blast anyway.

Jack figured it out pretty quick...

In this picture, Scott was wondering if we should have had all parents sign a waiver of liability

Somehow, the night ended with a few extra children in our bed...

Someone has been playing with dolls...

you can imagine my surprise when I spotted this in Kate's dollhouse this morning...

All of the family (and it's an interesting family at that... it includes a baby tinkerbell) neatly arranged around the the kitchen table, or perched carefully on the sofa

This careful work is definitely not Jack or Kate... and if it wasn't me....

Who could it have been?

Pajama Day at School

Kate and Jack had a 'pajama party' at pre-school for their last day of summer session. This was their last day in their K-2 and K-3 classrooms... Kate (much to my surprise, having just turned 2) moves up to K-3, and Jack moves up to K-4.

The pajama's were a surprise gift from the magical 'sleeping fairy' (this is our name for bribes to get our children to sleep through the night). Jack, completely infatuated with superheroes (he can name over 20 of them...) was ecstatic.

... more shots of Jack's amazing costume. He does want to wear it now every day, every where. It was for sure a lucky find - superhero pj's with an actual cape....

Kate is 2 today!

2 years ago today... it seems like just yesterday I had a sweet newborn to take care of. Now, I have a sweet little girl - although she just doesn't seem so little! Many have told me that my little princess is 2 going on 10, it's mostly her fierce independence and her sassy attitude, I think, that have earned her that label...

For everyone far away - we so wish you could come celebrate with us... we'll eat some extra cupcakes and think of you next Saturday when we have her party.

What happens when Dad is in charge...

Smiling Faces

Sometimes when I ask my children to smile for the camera they do...

Sometimes they stick out their tongues....

Sometimes they show me their ears....

and sometimes they just scowl at me

Both are very good at the scowl, but I prefer the smiles... :)

Kate + Cake = Happy

Kate was eating her Daddy's birthday Cake....

it looked like this -
