Our trip to the "fancy pool"... foiled by Fay

Today after Jack & Kate woke from their naps we headed out to the Royal Pacific resort at Universal. Scott was there having spent the night out with some friends from out of town. Our plan was to go the pool; the "fancy pool" as Jack calls all hotel/resort pools. This I guess distinguishes them from the run of the mill backyard pools that he usually swims in...

The ride from our house was about 20 minutes and we discussed how much FUN we were going to have the whole way there...

When we got to the pool the resort announced the pool was closed... too many lightening strikes too close. Try explaining that to a 2 1/2 year old.

Instead, we wandered around, snaps some photo's, and finally left with 2 very unhappy children. Not exactly the day we imagined.

Other Fay related incidents...

On the third straight day of rain, and the third day of being home with my children (preschool cancelled) they played outside in the rain. Jack preferred the cover of the garage overhang, Kate loved the rain.

If you teach a boy to fish...

That is all he wants to do, rain or shine, it makes no difference to him. Jack had his first fishing lesson and within seconds of his breaded hook hitting the water, he had successfully caught his first fish. From then on it was pretty much like shooting fish in a barrel, in fact I think Jack may have caught a fish with an empty hook. I guess that is what happens if you spend your days feeding stale cheerios and bread to brim off the dock, there are hundreds of brim down there just waiting to be caught.

Jack, couldn't have been prouder. Kate was only mildly interested in the fish, she then wandered off clutching the bait, a slice of bread, before settling down to snack on it

Kate's One Year Well Visit

Kate had her one year well visit today. She weighed in at 22 pounds, 60% on the growth chart for height and weight. Quite a difference from her brothers one year visit . Here are each of their stats at 12 months...

Kate: 21 pounds 15 ounces (60%), and 29 1/2 inches (60%).

Jack: 19 pounds 12 ounces (10%), and 28 3/4 inches (25%)

Here is a picture of Jack from January 2007 - right after his first birthday.

Kate is One!

Today Kate celebrated her first birthday. Jack was extremely excited about the party- he helped pick out the balloons, the candles and the cake, all the while exclaiming, "and it's my birthday too!"

Having learned a valuable lesson when we celebrated Jack's first birthday (too many people for him to relax) we gathered a small group of family together for the festivities. Kate donned her party dress and Jack, somewhat confused by the fact that he "gets dressed" but does not wear a dress, announced that he was wearing his party dress too.

In addition to being completely enamoured with spiderman, Kate is also smitten with a "my little pony figurine" she scored on vacation. The pony seemed more fitting for our princesses' first birthday, so we went that route for her cake.

Kate wasted no time in getting down to business with her cake.

She even attempted to eat her little pony...

A fun time was had by all!
